SKYWARN Seminar to Teach Weather Awareness

SKYWARN Seminar to Teach Weather Awareness

The goal of SKYWARN is to teach people how to provide timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service.

SKYWARN is a group of volunteers who keep their eyes on the horizon for severe and dangerous weather.  Every year, SKYWARN, along with the National Weather Service (NWS), hosts a free seminar on the campus of Southwestern Adventist University.  This year, the class will meet on February 7, 7-9 p.m. in Pechero Hall room 128.

The goal of this seminar, according to the National Weather Service website, is to teach people how to keep their communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service.

The SKYWARN seminar is an annual event, but will be slightly different this year.   The basic presentation will resemble advanced presentations from previous years.  There will be the same focus on safety and communications, but with a slightly different look.

Another change is that paper certificates will not be given to class participants.  Instead people who would like a certificate will receive an electronic copy.   All these changes will be highlighted in the class presentation.
