Write Spot Opens This Sunday

The Write Spot is about to start another year of excellence in writing.  Beginning this Sunday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m., students are invited to bring their writing projects to the Chan Shun Centennial Library for help. The write spot takes place in the library classroom next to the librarian’s office.

The Write Spot is a community of student tutors and teachers working together to improve all things writing related.  People can come for help with writing homework, or even with writing for fun. Tutors and teachers at the Write Spot will help with ideas, language, and clear expression. Through discussion and analysis of writing, they hope to help make better writers, and in turn, help those writers make better grades. All students are invited to the Write Spot, poor writers and excellent writers as well.

This year, the Write Spot is offering new sessions on writing personal statements for students applying for graduate and professional schools. The group will also be sponsoring an on-going writing group for faculty members. That group will work on publications, grants, and presentations.

Everything in the Write Spot is based on discussion and improvement of writing. Do not drop off homework and come back later to see the finished product. There will be no finished product to be picked up. The job of the Write Spot is not to do homework for a student, but to help students improve their homework.

Write Spot tutors are either full-time faculty or students that have been extensively trained in a semester-long course. Feel free to come to the Write Spot without warning. No appointment is necessary, although the Write Spot does run off of a first-come, first-serve basis. A schedule of tutoring hours will be sent out via email and the web soon.
