Sisters Sell Brownies for Honors Trip
(edited by Jaime Baldwin and B.J. Mondesir)
Brownies have paved the way for my sister and I to Fort Worth, England, Scotland, France, and now, hopefully, to this year’s Honor’s Tour destination: Greece.
It all started when my sister, Kilory, our friend Eryn Hopps, and I were juniors at Chisholm Trail Academy. We needed money to go to Youth for Jesus. We sang silly songs in the hallway for donations. Our mom thought we would make more money if we sang silly brownie jingles and sold chocolaty yumminess in a bag. She was right! Vegan brownies were requested and became our best seller.
Upon reaching the sacred halls of Southwestern, we learned of the honors trip to France. This was also just about the time former CTA students were asking where our brownies were. Mom hauled out her baking supplies to continue our fundraising tradition. Again, any special brownie request was met. My supervisor, Naomi Polley, introduced the idea of extra chocolate, caramel, and walnuts. Many lovely faculty and staff even gave us extra money when buying brownies. The honors trip to France by far exceeded our expectations.
This summer, Dr. Andrew Woolley is taking honors students to Greece. We are so there! That is, if Kilory and I sell enough brownies. As a special incentive, when you purchase a brownie, you can request a photo of a specific location in Greece.
Dr. Rudy Dennis recently overpaid for a box of brownies to be sent to his wife and her office friends! With generous people like him, and hungry students in the mood for something homemade, we’ll see the beaches, hills, and naked statues that Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and the Apostle Paul saw.
