There are several different music groups at Southwestern that have dedicated time to glorify the name of God in their worship through music. Some write their own original music while some like to take songs and put their own spin on them.

Robert Leslie, a member of the group Real, says that his favorite part of being in a band is that he can express himself with like-minded brothers and sisters of Christ. He enjoys signing and being a part of a group of people who enjoy music and worship like he does. Vilardy Alce (vocals), Brent Dennis (lead guitar), Josh Ramirez (bass guitar), Dastinee Duncan (vocals), and Daryl Parris (pianist) are also a part of the group Real.

Contagious Faith, a contemporary Christian acoustic band, is another musical group on campus. It’s composed of two brothers, Alexander and Anthony Cortes and a close family friend Marcus Acosta. They are often working on something new to share with the student body as part of their worship ministry.

Lead singer Alexander Cortes, a junior nursing major, wrote the theme song for Southwestern this year “In The House Of The Lord.” It’s been sung throughout the year and became well known during this semester’s week of prayer.

Contagious Faith will have a Christmas concert at Grandview SDA Church on Saturday, Dec. 20.

Members of the band Real are constantly participating not only in their own band, but are being pulled to help with other praise teams as well as other on-campus events. Villardy Alce, is an announcer for many of the sports events. He and the other members of Real are often seen on campus as being involved in many other praise teams as well.

These two groups highlighted here are just a couple of the many groups on campus. Members at the Spiritual Life office are always wanting to get more groups involved leading out song services and special music.
