Heartbreak and Triumph: Lady Knights Play Weekend Games
It was a weekend to remember and forget. The Lady Knights played hard this weekend, starting with a game on Thursday evening against Dallas Christian, Friday afternoon against Ozark Christian and ending with a Sunday afternoon game against SWCID.
Thursday game was a sight to behold, with both teams battling it out in the first and third set, neck and neck until the very end when Dallas was able to edge the Lady Knights and win the series. The first set was a close game, with SWAU just falling short 25-23. They hit a rough patch in the second set, losing 25-11, but rebounding in the third set and dragging the game into overtime. The teams stayed tied at 24 points each, the roaring fans cheering and urging their players to a win. Ultimately, it was not meant to be and they lost 26-24. The team seemed particularly motivated with the introduction of Eboni Smith, who finished the game with 6 kills, 21 TAs and a total of 11 points. Camile Fraser and Taylor Penn had commanded the team as usual, with Fraser having 9 kills and 28 TAs and ending with 9.5 points. Penn had 7 kills, 27 TAs and 11.5 points.
Friday’s night game against Ozark had a different tone. Even with Smith starting, the team had a hard time finding traction and lost the first set 25-15. Eva Wong hurt her knee half way through the set and sat the rest of the game out, cheering her teammates from the sideline. The second set had more of the same, the team just seemingly not finding their groove, and losing Savannah Walton towards the end of the set to a knee injury. According to staff, Walton will get minutes in the next game; however, Wong will be out. The third and final set saw a completely different team out on the court, communicating and battling Ozark to another overtime and again losing 26-24. Fraser once again led the team with 9 kills, 26 TAs and a total of 16 points. Her partners in crime, Penn and Williams, both had 3 kills, 14 TAs and 6.5 points. Smith had a good game, with 2 kills, 15 TAs and 5 points. Both games show that this team has a win in them, just sitting beneath the surface and waiting to be unlocked.
They played one last weekend game against SWCID, winning the series 3-0. The team communicated and performed well, winning the first set 25-15, the second set 25-8, and the final set 25-7. Smith, Fraser and Nia Tameifuna had themselves a game, finishing with the highest stats for the team. Fraser had 8 kills, 24 TAs and 12 points. Smith had 9 kills, 16 TAs and 12 points. Tameifuna had a high 11 kills, 21 TAs and 11 points.
