Golf Tourney To Honor Jarret Wade
A charity golf tournament to raise funds to fight cancer will feature 2010 Southwestern graduate Jarret Wade this Sunday. The tournament is scheduled for the Country View Golf Course in Lancaster, Texas.
Jarret Wade, class of 2010 alumnus, discovered he has cancer during March of his senior year at Southwestern. Wade has a very rare type of cancer that is similar to Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and Leukemia, however it has no name or cure.
During a recruitment trip for Southwestern, Wade began to feel a shooting pain in his arm. A few weeks passed, and a similar pain returned, only this time in his legs. He discovered a goose egg sized bump on his head, and then later the doctor diagnosed him.
“I don’t know if this is the end of my story, but if it is, I’m okay with the legacy God has allowed me in this time frame,” says Wade. “I believe Jesus came to save us from the fear of death, so I will not allow the devil the honor of stealing the joy from me if that’s the service God requires of me.”
In order to raise awareness for rare types of cancer, and to raise money for those affected by rare types of cancer, a nonprofit organization called Abundant Love has scheduled a charity golf tournament. Jarret Wade and his story will be highlighted at this tournament.
Abundant Love was established in 1992 to provide charitable services to the community. They are looking for players, donations, and sponsorship. Those who sponsor will have their company advertised on a tee box, or green. A sponsor sign cost $100. Donations will be accepted in the form of food, gift cards or coupons. All sponsors and donations are tax deductible.
