Enactus Opens Doors for Students through Service to Community

Gabriel Castillo

“The major thing I like about Enactus is networking,” says Gabriel Castillo, senior business major and current president of Enactus. “You get to experience many useful things and get the opportunity to network with a lot of professionals around the nation and learn how the business world works.”

Castillo has been a part of the Enactus organization for three years. He started off as a presenter for the competition and moved on to be the vice president of projects. This year he is the president of Enactus at Southwestern Adventist University. Being able to be a part of Enactus has made him a better entrepreneur and professional.

Enactus is an international non-profit organization that focuses on impacting the world and communities through entrepreneurship.  Southwestern Adventist University is one of the 540 universities nationwide that takes part in this organization to give their students vast opportunities and job prospects. The students who take part in this organization do projects throughout the school year that fulfills a need in their community. Each May they present what they have done in front of several judges that work for major corporations. Companies that sponsor Enactus include HEB, Walmart, Sam’s Club and Synchrony.

By being part of this organization, many doors have opened for Castillo not only in the corporate world but also in academics. “Enactus has given me a competitive advantage in the workforce,” he says. “Academically it has helped me form many relationships through officers, members, teachers, and judges.”

Castillo states that he has received many blessings by being a part of Enactus. As the current president, it’s his desire to share those blessings with others.
