Department Vespers, Concert Highlight Weekend

Southwestern invites the local community to get involved with spiritual life on campus this weekend.  There are opportunities of worship for all people. It’s a great time to serve God, and also learn a little bit more about Him.

Tonight the weekend will start with departmental vespers.  Each department puts together worship, so that people with similar majors and interests can get to know each other.  Departmental vespers only takes place once a semester, so don’t miss out on this fun opportunity.

Business department vespers is at Dr. Chi’s home at 2724 Hill Lane in Cleburne, 5:30 p.m. A carpool will meet at 5:15 p.m. in the Pechero parking lot. Chemistry and biology vespers will take place at Dr. Phillips’ house at 6:30 p.m. The address is at 1005 Greenbriar Avenue in Keene. At 7 p.m., the communication department is invited to Dr. Mendenhall’s house.  The address is 101 Songbird Trail in Keene.   For those in the English department, Dr. Gardner is holding vespers at 5016 Big Springs Drive in Joshua, 6:30 p.m.  Transportation is offered no later than 6:10 p.m. at the Mabee Center parking lot. History and social science departmental worship is at 6:30 p.m. in the Pechero Hall Lounge.  Last but not least, music department vespers is at Dr. Dennis’ home at 1608 Quail Hollow Drive in Cleburne at 6 p.m.

Saturday morning there is LIFE Sabbath school.  LIFE stands for Living In Faith Everyday.   The worship includes praise songs and group discussion.  It is located at Evans Hall, and starts at 10 a.m. Directly after Sabbath school there is the 11:30 a.m. Keene SDA Church service.  For early risers, there’s a 9 a.m. service as well.

On Saturday afternoon, people have the opportunity to serve God through community service.  The spiritual growth and development department will take whoever is interested with them to Huguley Hospital.  Groups will sing songs, talk, and pray with patients.  The group will meet right outside of the Chan Shun Library at 2:45 p.m., and the bus will leave at 3 p.m.

As the sun goes down, there are two different places to worship.  Kristian Stanfill, contemporary Christian artist, will perform a live concert at 7 p.m.  The concert takes place at the Arlington Seventh-day Adventist Church. Then at 7:30 Evensong, a more traditional version of vespers, takes place at the Keene Adventist Church.  Evensong is a time to meditate on God and all the blessings He has given.
