Southwestern Adventist University and the Southwestern Union will join Share Him for a mission trip to Boyacá, Colombia on May 11-30, 2016.  For this trip, a deposit of $200 is due on Tuesday, Dec. 15.  The payment schedule after that is: $467 on Jan. 5, and $467 on Feb. 15.  The cut-off date to join the mission trip is Feb. 22. At that point the total of $1,132 is due, followed by the last payment on March 15 of $466.

“A mission trip offers students a great opportunity to accomplish two things,” says Dr. Jorge Rico, chair of the religion department. “First, they have the opportunity to experience a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.  This will take place as the students participate in daily group devotionals. Secondly, they will have the personal satisfaction of having helped someone accept Jesus as his or her personal Savior. As such, the student will participate with Jesus in the work of saving souls for His kingdom.”

Boyacá is centrally located within Colombia, almost entirely within the mountains of the Eastern Cordillera to the border with Venezuela. Boyacá is known as “The Land of Freedom,” because this region was the scene of a series of battles, which led to Colombia’s independence from Spain.

Sermons will be provided for students to preach as well as some basic training in homiletics. Students who go will have the opportunity to take a three-hour credit religion course to fulfill one of the religion requirements and will receive a scholarship of up to $2,500 toward the next academic school year.

“People in Boyacá, Colombia will benefit from having a group of young adults come to share the love and saving message of Jesus that will change many lives for the better,” says Rico. “They will benefit from learning about the culture and experiences of the participating students. Finally, they will have a chance to learn a bit of English as they hear the students present the gospel of salvation.”
