CBase Test Scheduled for Oct 27, 30
One of the graduation requirements for students pursuing a bachelors degree is the College Base exam, generally taken during the senior year. This is an assessment test of basic general education concepts, and measures a student’s knowledge of English, writing, mathematics, science and social science.
The University uses the results of this exam to chart the progress of students from the freshman to senior year, and to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of Southwestern’s general education program. Advisors and department chairs also use text scores for advising and writing recommendations.
There are two different test times to allow the convenience of selecting the session that will best fit a student’s schedule:
- Sunday, Oct. 27, at 9 a.m. in Scales Hall – Room 201
- Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m. in Scales Hall – Room 201
The exam will take approximately four hours to complete. Use of a hand-held, non-printing, four-function, or six-function calculator is allowed during the exam. Calculators that have a memory function that stores more than three numbers are not allowed. Scientific and graphic calculators that have extended memories and perform multiple functions are not allowed. Students are also not allowed to share calculators. Students will not be allowed to leave the test early. Students must be on time and bring a No. 2 lead pencil.
A senior who does not achieve a minimum score of 200 in any section must retake that section or sections. The retake cost is $30 for one section and $40 for more than one section. Students missing the two scheduled testing times will have to pay $40 to take the test individually at the Counseling Center. All payments must be made in cash.
If anyone has any questions about the College Base exam email Amy Rosenthal, vice president for academic administration, at arosenthal@swau.edu or go to her office in Findley Hall.
