Campus Station Airs New Local News Program
KGSW, Southwestern’s own TV station, resumes its live weekly newscast today at 11:30 a.m. on digital Channel 18.1.
Every Thursday morning, KGSW welcomes Johnson County to tune in for live & local news about the University, Keene, and the greater Johnson County. For those unable to watch the live broadcast at 11:30 a.m., it is replayed at 5:30 p.m. on digital channel 18.1.
The cast and crew of the newscast are made up of communication students taking Digital Media Techniques and communication majors who work at the TV station. Matt Forner, freshman communication major, is the anchor for the weekly newscast and Jordan Greene, freshman communication major, delivers the weather forecast.
The advantage communication students have at Southwestern versus other universities is not lost on the students. “One of the best ways in learning something is hands on experience,” says Michael Demiar, junior communication major. “Reading a book or looking at pictures is one thing; but actually doing it, especially as a class, is pretty awesome. What better way to learn than through hands on experience.”
