Navajo Mission Trip Scheduled for Spring Break
Southwestern Adventist University Department of Spiritual Development is making plans for a Navajo Mission Trip over Spring Break Thursday, March 10 through Sunday, March 20.
“ We need students and faculty that enjoy working hard and playing hard,” says Bill Kilgore, vice president of spiritual development. This year, Southwestern will assist in repairs at the Fort Defiance Navajo mission and work at the newly constructed Youth Center in the middle of a housing project with many needs. In addition to construction work, volunteers will serve as tutors every afternoon, run a Vacation Bible School in the evenings. They will also lead out in the second annual skateboard and bike competition, put on by the youth in the housing projects, at the skateboard park that is adjacent to the Youth Center.
Students can expect to see incredible Indian ruins and possibly walk in snow up to their knees as they did last year, according to Kilgore.
Cost this year for the 10-day mission extravaganza will be $525, which covers all expenses except for souvenirs. Applications will be available this Wednesday, November 3 in the Spiritual Development Office.
“Last year we had a waiting list of students who didn’t get to go because we were full,” says Kilgore. “I strongly advise those interested to get their application in by Wednesday, December 1.”
An informative meeting about the trip will be announced soon. Chisholm Trail Academy are also invited to join Southwestern on the trip this year.
