Meet Your SA Parlimentarian

I began as a student services senator during the 2015-2016 school year. My job was to think of ideas and projects that would help better the SWAU campus. I must have made quite an impression because I was asked to become the 2016-2017 SA parliamentarian just right after I put my senator title to rest.
Many people ask me, however, what a parliamentarian is and what I do for our student body. Parliamentarian is an easily forgotten but important role in the student association. What I do is mostly for the student senate than for the student association, however, I do work hard for both. Basically, a parliamentarian serves as the assistant to the executive vice president, and assists as his right-hand man. I also assist in leading and advising our student senate. I make sure our meetings run smoothly, in order, and as professionally as possible. Finally, I make sure that our student association constitution and bylaws are fair, understandable, and agreed upon.
This is my first time ever holding a leadership position. I can honestly say that it is a wonderful experience that I would recommend to each and every student. Being a member of the SA makes one feel united as a team with the other officers, and makes one feel important and needed as well. However, it does have its downsides. If I thought I didn’t have a social life before, it’s nonexistent now. Perhaps that may be because I’m also an upperclassmen now, and have multiple jobs. Either way, my schedule for the rest of the school year is packed!
Overall, being in SA has many more blessings than it does curses. I have made great connections with some of the best people I will every meet. I’ve learned how valuable time is, and how “with great power comes great responsibility,” as Spiderman says. Although we are barely beginning the new school year and SA still has a lot to do, I know that this will be a very memorable year for all of us—SA, faculty, students, and staff—and I can’t wait to share what SA has to offer this year!
