20th Annual Hoops Classic Draws 53 Teams
This year marks the 20th time Southwestern Adventist University will host its annual Hoops Classic, a national invitational basketball tournament for high schools to compete, learn and socialize with each other. This year’s Hoops Classic will include 53 teams, including two from Puerto Rico, an increase of three teams since last year.
The tournament feature two divisions: Men’s and Women’s. Those divisions will be divided by area (Pacific, North, South, etc.) and by the size of their school (large school or small school).
Each team in the invitational will have a win/loss column. Teams will get seeded, depending on how many wins or losses they have before the divisional round begins. Teams that are seeded first in their bracket will play at the start of the playoffs on Friday morning. Second- and third-seeded teams in the bracket will play Thursday night to qualify for the playoffs. Saturday night will be the start of the finals round. Any fourth-seeded team will be eliminated from playoff contention.
When the tournament is over and the first- through fourth-place teams receive their trophies, players and coaches will receive additional awards, including Most Outstanding Player (championship team), Coach’s Award, and Spirit Award.
Games will be played in five different locations so all teams will have a place to play. These locations are: Burleson Recreation Center (BRiCk), Chisholm Trail Academy (CTA), Keene High School (KHS), Keene Junior High (KJH) and Keene Elementary School (KES).
For the Hoops Classic, fans can purchase two types of admission passes. The day pass includes the cost of $5 for adults and $3 for children or students. The four-day pass, which costs $15 for adults and $10 for children or students, allows fans to see all of the games.
The Hoops Classic begins tomorrow, with the first game starting at 3:15 p.m. and the last some time Saturday night.
