Enactus Works with Local Bank to Host Financial Workshop
Enactus is an international organization of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better more sustainable world. Some time ago, Southwestern Adventist University Enactus teamed up with First Financial Bank in Cleburne to host a financial workshop. This event took place at the bank’s Marti Training Center and anyone who wished to learn more about finance and banking was encouraged to come. This workshop was focused on helping educate those who had no credit, damaged credit or those wishing to learn how banks and citizens interact. This is one of the several community outreach programs First Financial Bank hosts to give back to the community.
This event took place over two days in late February. The project was funded through the Sam’s Club Step Up for Small Business Grant. Free food was provided and First Financial Bank professionals spoke on topics taken directly from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The bank covered topics ranging from basic banking, debit/credit, savings, loans, and financial recovery. Each individual who attended both days of the event received a certificate that gave him or her the opportunity to open a free bank account, even if they previously had bad credit.
In attendance were several members of the Johnson County Christian Lodge, which is a non-profit, Christian-based, homelessness recovery center. The goal of the workshop was to help the homeless transition to independence. Helping with the program were several Southwestern Adventist University Enactus members.
Enactus would like to give a special thanks to Tom O’Neil, president of First Financial Bank, Angie Hadley, vice president and coordinator for this community program, and the other professionals from First Financial Bank who reviewed material and answered questions. We would also like to thank Ana Patterson and Aaron Moses, who are the Enactus advisors at Southwestern Adventist University.
