SWAU To Host First Annual Service Day on April 6
Southwestern Adventist University will host its very first annual Service Day on Friday, April 6, 1 to 5 p.m. Students will be involved in reaching out and assisting with the needs of ten local businesses.
Service Day is a joint effort between the Spiritual Life and Development office and the Student Association, and will not be a campus-wide required event. However, class scheduling will be changed to Week of Prayer schedule, and will allow all students the opportunity to be involved.
“I hope that our school will be more involved with service and reaching out to our local community,” says Andrew Tyre, one of the Service Day organizers.
Students will not be required to sign up ahead of time to be involved with Service Day. Instead, on the day of the event, students will meet after lunch in a designated area, and student leaders will be scattered throughout the area. Each student leader will be in charge of a different work site. Students will have the chance to choose which student leader they would like to serve with and work on that specific project.
Once students have picked their projects the groups will split off and go to individual work sites. Hopes are high that many students will meet the needs of our local community and come to Service Day and support.
The goal of Service Day is to assist the local community around our campus and practically reach the needs of others for Christ.
“I personally believe that service is making a difference in another person’s life through helping them and building relationships with them,” says Tyre.
