Poem: “Jubal” by Christian Gonzalez
The following poem won second place is the 2018 Creative Writing Contest at Southwestern Adventist University, and is shared here by request of our readers.
Jubal
There he goes
The Poetry Man
Who writes his scriptures
In comic sans
With a boombox in his hand
As He strikes the page
With a single chord
The Prophet played
And made his guitar soar.
Wailing through the night
His disciples, they sang the chorus
There he was
The Music Messiah
Standing there, right before us.
Barefoot in the sand
He played guitar so well
We began to tremble
And with the sound of his song
He made our hearts swell.
Aurora Borealis in the sky
And the rich man filled with regret
Was kneeling down,
Saw his wrongs,
And wept.
The beggar could eat again
The song was over
His lesson done
Packed his guitar
And headed for the sun.
One day, we’ll meet again
