Opinion: The Library Needs More Study Rooms
(Edited by Herman Aguilar)
My name is David Maldonado and I am a recent graduate of Southwestern Adventist University. I graduated class of 2015. I had a great experience the three years I attended and would recommend SWAU to anyone interested in attending. My years enrolled as a student, I spent my time after classes mostly in the library, although I always made time to exercise and socialize when possible.
The university library, in my opinion, is pleasing to the eye. Both the interior and exterior are nice, but I think there’s room for improvement. From the outside looking in, the library looks as if it can hold many things but when I’m inside I sense a lot of potential space is being wasted. For starters, you can see the third floor from the first, which is no problem, but many more study rooms or study areas could be made with all that open space. Essentially, one side of the library is being used, while the other half is being wasted with open space.
My vision for an improved library is that it can be enlarged either through construction to the already “empty space” or by making it bigger. Enlarged, more study rooms and study areas can be added so that students have enough rooms. Everyone has their study comfort zone and mine was a study room. The study room is a way to study by oneself or with others in a semi-private closed room and as a result the quality of studying can be enhanced.
