Opinion: Missions Has Given Me a Love for Service
(Edited by Keysha Ortiz-Ramos and Herman Aguilar)
Helping and being involved in the missions department of Spiritual Life and Development this semester has truly been a blessing. I’ve met new people, learned new things, and realized my profound love for service.
In my eyes, missions is an integral part of the Seventh-day Adventist ministry. We have been called to tell the world of God’s amazing love and mercy. Being part of the missions department has allowed me to witness first-hand the amazing things God can do through young people. His word is being spread around the world through the fierce nature of our youth.
I have also had the opportunity to start a missions small group with my partner Rocio. Having a small group in my first semester at Southwestern Adventist University has shown me that God has a special purpose for each one of us. Being part of a small group has also brought back my love for missions.
Whenever I am working in the SLAD office, it never feels like work to me, because I truly enjoy what I’m doing. I get so excited when we’re sending packages to our student missionaries and recruiting future missionaries. Working in the missions department is something I can see myself doing in the future. As I volunteer and continue to help the missions department, I realize that is where God wants me to be. I’ve prayed so long for an opportunity to put the talents He has given me to good use.
Helping in SLAD this semester has given me hope for my future in missions. As I continue to help in the work of collecting God’s sheep, I pray for clarity of mind and consistency in finishing His work. I am also very thankful for the opportunity of helping in this wonderful ministry.
