On Tuesday, Southwestern Adventist University held its grand opening of the new Larry Moore Administration and Nursing Building, followed by its re-closure that same night to continue the construction of the building.

Based on the original completion date agreed upon with the architect and building firm, the date for the grand opening was scheduled months in advance. University workers began moving furniture into the building the Sunday before to ensure that the building would look presentable to the hundreds who toured the facility, including donors, University board members and representatives from Keene and Cleburne chambers of commerce. In addition, Texas State Representative DeWayne Burns and Keene Mayor James Chapline made presentations. According to Darcy Force, director of public relations and marketing for Southwestern, the community was invited, with more than 500 visitors in attendance for the event.

The new Larry Moore Nursing & Administration Building had its ribbon cutting and dedication on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

“In 1893, Keene as we know it did not exist,” said Tami Condon, vice president for advancement, at the event. “The first recorded fundraised building cost $2,500. Today, we’re building a state-of-the-art nursing building and our nursing program is ranked well above the national average.”  After taking a group picture with the nursing department, the ribbon was cut and visitors were welcomed into the new building.

The first floor contained the majority of the nursing program’s practical training, including the skills lab, simulation rooms and classrooms. The second-floor houses the president and other administrative office, the advancement department as well as the nursing faculty.
