ENACTUS Meets to Organize for New School Year
During the first meeting to introduce ENACTUS to future potential members held Tuesday, Aug. 30, at a first glance, many students held a common question: “What is ENACTUS?”
According to their official mission statement, ENACTUS is: “A community of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better more sustainable world.” To make this statement easier for students to understand, ENACTUS officers started with personal testimonies, opening the floor to past ENACTUS members and their experiences, as well as picture and video presentations of how projects can impact the community and oneself.
“ENACTUS is an organization that no one truly understands unless you jump into a project and experience the positive impact firsthand,” said ENACTUS President Gabriel Castillo.
The first project presented for this 2016-2017 school year is “Beeyond Design.” The mission is to provide life opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities within our community. ENACTUS came along to help make a mascot as well as design a website that would enable Beeyond Design to sell their handmade crafts. This year ENACTUS would like to continue to help this non-profit organization to thrive.
Beyond seeing how impactful these projects can be, students also witnessed the competitions with 17-minute presentations against more than 400 active Enactus teams. Long hours and hard work are put into every presentation, but at the end it’s all worthwhile.
“From regional, national, to world cup competitions as well as having the opportunity to talk to representatives of Fortune 500 companies who are directly looking at you to potentially work for them, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss!” one of last year’s presenters said.
