Student Creative Writing Club To Begin On Thursday
The Rough Writers, Southwestern Adventist University’s student-led creative writing club, will begin its 12th year on campus when it meets this Thursday.
Officially a club of the English department, the Rough Writers is open to any student who is interested in poetry, short stories, novels, screenplays or any other form of creative writing.
“Our goal is to help students learn how to write better, find and get to know other students who enjoy doing it as well, and having fun together,” says Glen Robinson, club sponsor. Robinson says activities consist of students alternately bringing in samples of their work where it is critiqued by the group, doing fun and stimulating writing exercises, and planning special events such as the annual Creative Writing Contest and the occasional Poetry Slam. Poetry Slams are events where students bring in written pieces to read publicly in front of an audience.
The Rough Writers will gather for its organizational meeting Thursday, Sept. 3 at 5 p.m. in the Library Classroom on the main floor of the Chan Shun Centennial Library. All are invited.
