Students Enjoy Game Night
Southwestern Adventist University’s computer science department, along with student services and student senators, planned and hosted a game night at Scales Hall on Saturday, April 9 during Senate Emphasis Week. Not all students feel comfortable going to the typical style of social events, so this game night was hosted in order to give them something where they would feel more at home and have more fun doing what they enjoy with their friends.
The computer science department had previously hosted another game night during the fall semester of the 2015-2016 school year. However, due to a lack of advertising, not many students were aware of the event. Because of this, the turnout was less than expected, but those who did attend had seemed to have a great time. This time, however, Senate has offered to team up and host another game night in the hope of attracting more people to the event.
The event began approximately at 8 p.m. Games such as Nintendo’s Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers were provided by members the computer science department, along with other games for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Games, and their players, were spread out both inside and outside of Scales Hall, allowing people to easily transition from station to station with their friends. All of this was done under the watchful eye of Arty, the model dinosaur recently set up outside of Scales Hall.
Senate was tasked with providing food for the event. At the request of the computer science department, pizza and salad, along with different types of sodas, were present for everyone to enjoy. Music was played over a speaker system and commentary for several games was provided, both by members of the computer science department. The turnout was a lot larger than expected, however there was enough food and everyone seemed to have a great time.
