Rough Writers Announce Annual Writing Contest for Cash Prizes

4-12RWlogoHave you ever wanted to showcase your creative writing skills and win some cash for it? Well Southwestern’s annual Creative Writing Contest is your opportunity to do so.  Southwestern’s Rough Writers will host their annual writing competition for its sixth year.

The writing contest is available to Southwestern students only. This year, the contest will be adding a new category, which is script writing. So students will be able to display their short story, poetry, and script writing skills.

Each category will present its winners with a $100 and $50 cash prize for first and second place respectively.

Rules:

  • You must be a Southwestern student.
  • Your entry must be an original and unpublished work by you. It should be consistent with the values and ideals of Southwestern.
  • Two category entries maximum per student.
  • Include the title of your entry on both the first page of the manuscript and on the cover sheet. Do not include your name on the manuscript.
  • Students can only win once in each category. If a student wins first place in one category, he or she is ineligible to win first place in any other category.
  • In your cover sheet make sure to include the entry category, title of the entry, your name, year, major, and telephone number.

“The writing contest is a way for anyone who loves to write to get some recognition for the hard work they put in,” says Kerstie Macomber, this year’s president of the Rough Writers. The Rough Writers meet every Thursday at the library classroom at 5 p.m.

The deadline to turn in your entry is Monday, April 11 at 5 p.m. All entries need to be submitted to robinson@swau.edu. Winners will be announced at SWAU honors assembly on Thursday, April 28.
