University To Host Candidates’ Forum
Southwestern Adventist University, in conjunction with the Star Group, will host a public candidate forum for the Precinct 4 County Commissioner candidates and the Johnson County Judge candidates on the evening of Feb. 18 at the Wharton Auditorium in the Mabee Center. A meet and greet with the candidates will start at 6:15 p.m. with the forum following at 6:45 p.m. Ricky Stephens, Superintendent of KISD, will moderate the debate formatted forum.
The debate points are as follows: possible construction and expense of a new jail, salaries for the Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies and other members of the sheriff’s office, animal control, video-recording and webcast of commissioners court, the spending of Johnson County’s $30 million fund balance, control of county expenses, and the future of the emergency services district. Questions are welcome and can be submitted to the moderator during the debate.
The candidates for County Commissioner are Bart Basham, A.J. Mathieu, David Patterson, Tim Sinclair, and Larry Woolley. The candidates for County Judge are Derek George, Roger Harmon, and Justin Hewlett.
The forum is open to the public. A light reception will accompany the meet and greet. The Mabee Center is located on the campus of Southwestern Adventist University, on the corner of Old Betsy and West Magnolia Street, in Keene.
