Basketball Tourney Begins Today
Southwestern’s 16th Annual Hoops Classic begins today and runs through Sunday, Jan. 22. This event is a weekend of tournaments with Seventh-day Adventist academy basketball teams participating from around the country.
Many schools will participate this year including: Garland, Mile High, Sandia View, Tampa, Chisholm Trail, Highland View, Jefferson, Keene Community, Burton, Dallas, South Texas, Valley Grande, Ozark, Shenandoah Valley, Spring Valley, Collegedale, Forest Lake, Andrews, Oakwood, Spencerville, Johnson County, North Dallas, The Oaks, and Hinsdale. A total of 50 men’s and ladies’ teams are scheduled to play.
Men’s and Ladies’ divisions will participate, with each division broken up into large schools and small schools. Within the large and small school groups, teams will be divided into three smaller groups: North, South and East for Ladies’ Small Schools, and Pacific, Central and Atlantic for Ladies’ Large Schools. Men’s Small Schools will be broken up into four small groups: North, West, South and East. Men’s Large Schools will be divided into Pacific, Central and Atlantic.
To accommodate all the games that will take place, Chisholm Trail Academy, Keene High, Keene Jr. High and Southwestern’s gyms are being used. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for students and children.
The All Tournament, Most Outstanding Player and Spirit Awards will be given at the closing ceremonies to the team and/or players which show the most cooperative effort, sportsmanship, attitude etc.
