“Why Biology Has Nothing to Fear from Intelligent Design—and Much to Gain” is the latest topic to be presented by Dr. Paul Nelson in Saturday’s installment of the Saxon Lecture Series.

Can Biology and Intelligent Design coexist? These are questions that Nelson is sure to address and answer as he presents this debatable topic. This latest Saxon Lecture will be held in Wharton Auditorium on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 4 p.m.

The annual Saxon Lecture Series is an opportunity for students and community residents to gain a unique perspective on how religion and science can connect and work together. Past lectures in the Saxon Lecture Series have discussed Galileo, creation, evolution, dinosaurs, the Higgs Boson, mathematics and the new atheism.

Nelson is a philosopher of biology who has been involved in the intelligent design debate internationally for more than two decades. After receiving his B.A. in philosophy with a minor in evolutionary biology from the University of Pittsburgh, Nelson attended the University of Chicago, where he earned his Ph.D. in the philosophy of biology and evolutionary theory in 1998. Nelson frequently lectures at colleges and universities throughout the United States and Europe, has spoken on American and Italian national public radio, and written for popular publications such as the Oslo Dagbladet and the Christian Research Journal. Nelson is currently a member of the Discovery Institute and Adjunct Professor in the Master of Arts Program in Science & Religion at Biola University in La Mirada, California.

The Saxon Lecture is free and open to the public.
