Emergency Notification Network Comes to Campus

There’s a new way for students and faculty to stay notified about on-campus emergencies. E2Campus is a program that sends alerts to the student body via text message.  Now Southwesterners can say goodbye to sitting by the radio waiting for that snow day announcement, or asking around to find out where next week’s vespers is.  Students are encouraged to utilize this new program as an easier and more convenient way to stay informed.

E2Campus will send notifications about tornado warnings, thunderstorms, snow days, and other emergency warnings.  Charles Lewis, director of information technology services, says “We realize that not everyone has unlimited texting, so Emergency Alerts is the only required category. Hopefully we won’t have to send a single emergency alert, but in case we do we would like to be in contact with as many people as possible.”

You also have the option of expanding your e2Campus account to include notices about weather, campus ministries, intramurals/athletics, student services, SA events and other campus news. You may also sign up for e-mail alerts.

Any service provider can use e2Campus because it is a cross-carrier service. Students that choose to sign up for e2Campus will be required to have a texting service on their cell phone. The program is completely web based, and only administrators will have access to your information. Your phone numbers will remain private and Southwestern will not spam your phone.

“It’s a simple concept, if there’s an emergency, Southwestern wants to send you a text message,” says Lewis.  You can register by clicking here.
