Southwestern Introduces Leadership Scholarships

Graduating high school seniors who have served as a student association or class officer may be eligible for a new Leadership Scholarship when they enroll at Southwestern Adventist University in fall, 2011.

According to Enga Almeida, Southwestern’s vice president for enrollment, these scholarships are for one year and applicable only for incoming freshmen at Southwestern. They are also over and above any Southwestern academic scholarship that the student qualifies for. If a student has held more than one office, only one scholarship will be awarded and will be given for the highest office held.

Students who served as student association president, senior class president or senior class valedictorian are eligible for a $2,500 reward. Students who served as a student association vice president, yearbook editor or newspaper editor will receive a $2,000 reward. And students who served as a junior or senior class officer or student association officer are eligible for a $1,000 reward.

“With so many families tightening their belts today, Southwestern wants to continue our tradition of offering educational opportunities to students,” says Almeida. “Southwestern has always been a school that honors hard work and self-help.”
