Just as the students of Southwestern Adventist University were starting to wonder where and when Mimosa is going to happen this year, when rumor mills flooded the campus as to possible sites of interest, the unexpected occurred: in a recent e-mail sent to students, the time and location were revealed.

The 2010 Mimosa, entitled “Masquerade,” will be held on March 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hilton Bella Harbor Grand Ballroom on Lake Ray Hubbard, located at 2055 Summer Lee Drive in Rockwall, Texas. The Hilton Dallas/Rockwall Lakefront, as described in the e-mail, “overlooks the picturesque lake [Ray Hubbard], providing exquisite sunrise and sunsets daily and the stunning backdrop of the downtown Dallas skyline.”

Have you been watching the news lately? You probably have. You are probably even watching it right now. What do you see?

Disaster. Calamity. Chaos.

Over the past couple of months, there have been a number of natural disasters that have shaken the earth, literally and emotionally. With the recent earthquakes in Chile, Haiti, and Japan, among the other numerous events, it is quite sad, albeit it, depressing, to hear of the losses that many have occurred because of these disasters.

Snow blankets campus once again

Southwestern Adventist University is once again blanketed by snow, the result of a front that came in the early hours of the morning. Although a number of students think that classes should be cancelled, the weather is not as severe as that of the snow storm that occurred two weeks ago, one that cancelled two days of class and extended the holiday weekend into a five-day weekend.

Dr. Benjamin McArthur, vice president for academic administration, addressed the current situation of the weather. “There is a good chance of snow for tomorrow [today]. But snow alone does not necessitate class cancellation. Closing will occur only if the roads are icy and hazardous,” McArthur said yesterday, in an e-mail to students.
