Be a flower

It was a cold afternoon, the wind whipping at my t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flop donned feet. I gave myself the opportunity to take a stroll around the pond this last weekend, despite being inadequately dressed for the occasion.
As I was walking, taking in the cool breeze, the fresh air, and the scent of the pond, I noticed something that I didn’t expect to see at this time and place where I was.
A flower.
Now it sounds as if I’ve never seen a flower before during the cold season, but this one was quite unique. Standing on its own, braving the low temperatures, swaying in the breeze, the flower stood there, not minding my company. Although it was cold, enough to give me the chills and shivers, this flower somehow was brave enough to take a stand against the elements. And as I stood there, somewhat amused and perplexed at why such a thing was before my eyes, it hit me. Literally.
The sun.
As I stood there, I could feel the warmth of the sun beating down on me. Yes, it was windy and cold, and somewhat uncomfortable, but it was warm! This flower was enjoying something that I, seemingly more intelligent than the flower, would not have even acknowledged or noticed.
The flower made me recall Psalms 46:10, which states, “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (NIV) God doesn’t expect us to give him a fancy show of praise and adoration; all he wants is for us, in the most simplest of praise, to be still.
Despite the cold and windy weather of life, we should never forget to be still, and know that God is with us.
Be a flower.
