"This project is an incentive as well as excellent experience for the class and rewarding for the communication department," says Yates.
According to Yates, this assignment is designed to prepare students to work together and get experience dealing with people, money, hired help, budgets, timelines and phases of management. Yates and the class call themselves the Committee of Six.
Most all the communication majors will be involved in the planning portion of this project, according to Yates, including journalism, public relations and advertising majors.
Southwestern students from the Broadcast Management class are overseeing the remodeling of the old ESL building into a student lounge and central workplace for the communication majors, according to Randy Yates, assistant professor and general manager of KJCR and KGCW. They expect to finish by the end of next month.
