Some students still have stars in their eyes after Sunday nights extravagant Mimosa. This year’s Mimosa was a strictly RSVP event with no walk-ins or last-minute ticket purchases. Held at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Mimosa boasted a taste of culture and elegance.

SWAU students and faculty showed up dressed in their finest, and were greeted by a live jazz band and great service. The main course was Italian food with a twist, followed by the guest’s choice of several luscious desserts.

The general consensus was that the banquet was a hit! Students say they liked the variety of foods and the fact that it was a buffet. Many students also took advantage of the beautiful architecture for an impromptu photo shoot. Others posed for Jerry Potter, who set up his equipment by the waterline for professional portraits. Potter photographed many couples, but received a surprise when he took Jarrod Purkeypile and Eileen Neave’s picture. Potter says, "Jarrod came up to me, turned his back to Eileen and told me he was going to propose. I told him to wait because I only had room for five more pictures! I quickly switched memory cards and shot away."

When asked why he decided to propose at Mimosa, Purkeypile said, "Everything was right and I just couldn’t think of any reason to wait. I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her."

Neave says, "I was really surprised by his proposal, but I was really happy and there was just no way I could say anything but ‘Yes, I’ll marry you.’"

The night was many things for many people. Some were just having fun with friends. Others were on their first date, or already in an established relationship. For two people, the night was the beginning of a promise for a lifetime together. For many people, SWAU’s 2008 Mimosa is a night to remember.
