Sophomore Dustin Serns of team Lightning runs, controlling the puck, while warming up for the second game of the double header on Thursday, Feb. 28. University Intramural Floor Hockey began its season on Thursday with two games. The first was between Corey Crabtree's Sharks and Blayne Milner's Flames. With Junior Nathan Thomason single-handedly putting them on the board with four points, Sharks defeated the Flames 7 - 0 to start the season.
The second game was a close battle between the Flames and Dustin Serns' Lightning. Because there are only three teams, the Flames played the second game. The Flames took this victory, 3 - 2, over the Lightning.
"The competition is there," said Sophomore Brian Delima. "The only reason we lost the first game was because we had an inexperienced goalkeeper. We can definitely take the championship."
According to gym staff, each team has too many players. Jeremy Perkins, intramural directory, is considering splitting up the teams and re-distributing the draft picks.
The season will last until the end of March.
