Southwestern Adventist University is a coeducational institution of higher learning located in Keene, Texas. It was established and is operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and is essential to the fulfillment of the church. The mission of Southwestern Adventist University is to offer quality higher education in a Christ-centered environment.
The Southwesterner is the official online news publication of the Southwestern Adventist University Department of Communication.
Our mission is to (1) Provide fair and balanced coverage of local news events that are relevant and of interest to students at Southwestern Adventist University; (2) address issues relevant to SWAU students in a fair and balanced manner; (3) help students and friends of the university to become more familiar with the people who comprise Southwestern Adventist University; (4) train students as Christian communicators in a news capacity.
If a visitor to this site is aware of any local news that is relevant to students and yet is not being covered here, they are encouraged to submit that news story to the editorial staff. We will try our best to stay on top of events as they occur. There will be occasions during the school year (such as at midterm and final exam time), and during the summer, when we will be short staffed, however. In those situations, we ask for patience from our readers. We will endeavor to remain timely with our news.
