Southwestern’s 23rd annual music festival will begin tomorrow. The festival features three ensembles, a 400-voice choir, a 90-piece symphonic band and a full-symphony orchestra. The festival is an opportunity for high school and academy students from all over the country to showcase their musical talents.

In addition to the festival ensembles, elite musicians may audition for a Music Festival Scholarship. Students that audition may be selected as a Scholarship Finalist. The winners of the Music Festival Scholarship will be determined at the Showcase Recital tonight on the eve of the music festival.

This year’s music festival will feature students from 22 schools, including schools from Oklahoma and New Mexico. All the money raised during the event will be used for the Music Festival Scholarship.

“I’m passionate about our students being able to have this experience, combining their talents with our other Adventist youths to showcase their gift of music,” says Rachel Denny, University director of development. “It’s a beautiful thing when our extended Southwestern family composed of friends, family, and alumni are able to come and appreciate the hard work of our Adventist students. I feel truly blessed to be involved with this event and this department.”

The music festival culminates with the music festival program A Night at the Meyerson on Sunday night at 7:30 at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas. Doors will open at 7 p.m.

Ticket prices will be $30 for the Floor/Terrace seats and $20 for the Dress Circle seats. Southwestern students, faculty and staff can purchase their tickets early from the advancement office and receive a discount as well.
