Dr. Lloyd Willis, retired religion professor from Southwestern Adventist University, will present the next installment of the Saxon Lecture Series on Saturday, Feb. 13. His topic is “Ellen White and Old Testament Chronology: What about the 6,000 years?”

Willis taught for nearly 40 years, 15 of those years in India and 24 years at Southwestern Adventist University, serving for part of that time as chair of Southwestern’s religion department.

“I never intended to become a teacher. I always wanted to be a pastor,” says Willis. Willis graduated with his bachelor degree in education and religion in 1970 from Andrews University. He later returned to Andrews to earn his PhD in 1984.

“The fact that I can help other people appreciate the Bible in an interesting and unique way is one of my favorite aspects of teaching religion,” says Willis. His knowledge and admiration for the Old Testament in the Bible will be important part of his lecture.

“I want people to leave the lecture with a deep understanding of the Old Testament and how Ellen White helps us to understand the importance of the old scriptures,” says Willis.

The lecture will be held in Wharton Auditorium on the campus of Southwestern Adventist University at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13. The lecture is free and open to the public.
