ENACTUS PLANS PROJECTS FOR SCHOOL YEAR

Southwestern Adventist University ENACTUS team has four projects in mind and almost in action for this school year. These are Business in a Box, Spoons for Change, Rez Refuge (Navajo Trip), and a project with the City of Cleburne.
Business in a Box is a project for the elementary and middle school students in the Keene schools. This project will show the children basic entrepreneurial skills for them to raise their own money and become a little more independent. This is the second year ENACTUS has worked this project. It gives the elementary and middle school students something to work on and learn from after school.
Spoons for Change is a women’s empowerment project. Club members will be teaching women some workforce skills and will show them how to save money in different ways, especially when it comes to meals. The ENACTUS team will hold nutrition classes and cooking classes. They will give out recipes that require few and cheap ingredients, and we will be teaching how to coupon.
Last year ENACTUS installed computers for the Rez Refuge, which is a safe haven for youth in Arizona. They have recruited the University of Montemorelos to work hand in hand with them on this project. Rez Refuge is a non-profit organization, so they need other ways to earn some form of income such as T-shirt making and gardening. The team plans to help them come up with more designs for shirts in order to sell more. The refuge already operates a small neighborhood vegetable garden in Fort Defiance, so the team will be introducing hydroponic techniques in an effort to increase their yield.
This will be the first time ENACTUS will be working hand in hand with the Cleburne Chamber of Commerce and the City Mayor’s office. The purpose of this competition is to empower the community to start their own businesses and to add on to the life of the city. Since the City of Cleburne is growing rapidly, members of ENACTUS thought this would be a great idea for the community as a whole.
