SIFE Team Visits Burton Adventist Academy

SIFE students teach business applications to Burton Academy seniors

The Southwestern Adventist University SIFE team recently spent a day with Burton Academy seniors. The goal was to expand the academy students’ knowledge of business and the global economy.

This presentation immersed the students into the global business world. Students debated how cultural and economic differences affect businesses in their attempt to go global. They considered the most effective ways a company or business may go global.

A few SIFE students talked about the country that they are from. SIFE members from other countries include Yan Lang from China, Jeffery Michel from Haiti, and Tam and Nhat Nguyen from Vietnam. Each gave a mini lesson tailored to exemplify the cultural and business differences in his or her country. Then Janet Garcia and Mike Haynes explored the financial side of business, such as stocks, dividends, and income.

The class was given a test before and after the presentation to see what the students had learned. The post-test showed a 21.2% knowledge increase over the material covered during the hour.

Tam Nguyen, the team president, says, “We plan to visit the Burton students once a month, starting with a catch up lunch in October, and then a visit at the Fall Fair, where we will interact with Burton students and enjoy the festivities together.”
